Let
me explain why I feel this way.

      First of all,
employment agencies will take on much more of a role in career development
in the future simply because of the fact that upwards of 80% of all job
openings are no longer advertised to the general public. Most job openings
have become part of the “hidden job market”. Therefore, employers will
be utilizing the services of employment agencies on a more regular basis
to fill their staffing needs. People who are searching for entry level
positions or who wish to change careers, will depend on employment agents
to help them fulfill their career objectives. The norm will soon be that
all students will be registered with one or more employment agencies while
they are still in secondary or post-secondary school, even prior to their
being qualified for entry to their career fields. Employers will be able
to recruit the best candidates for the job through agencies since these
agencies will be able to follow their registered clients throughout their
      training and subsequent working years.
      Second, distance
education is becoming increasingly necessary as students at the secondary
and post-secondary levels discover that they need credits in subjects that
are much more easily obtained through correspondence rather than through
the local university or college institutions. Distance education courses
allow a student to “fill in the gaps” with respect to courses that
must be obtained as prerequisites for post-secondary programs. These
courses are easy to register in and have flexible start times. Distance
Education is almost like attending a “virtual” private career college
in that you can take a course when you need it, accommodating your current
work or school schedule while you are taking the courses.

      Third, personal tutors
or ‘Learning Coaches’ will soon be recognized as indispensable
“mentors” who will be counted on to help students overcome
difficulties and challenges faced while they are engaged in their
secondary and post-secondary studies. Tutors will be able to help students
graduate on time and will also be extremely useful in situations where
students are taking correspondence courses while also attending school on
a full-time basis. It is much easier to handle distance education if you
have the services of a personal tutor at your side. In addition, as people
enroll in private career colleges in order to upgrade or qualify for a
career shift, personal tutors will help ensure success in the program.
Tutors will become insurance for students in the future.

      Of the four most
influential trends that will shape the next decade in the field of
education and career development, there is overwhelming evidence to
suggest that nothing will have more of an impact than private career
colleges. This is because the structure of private career colleges is
conducive to the needs of students of all ages today, including adults and
retirees. It is also because the traditional public institutions, namely
universities and community colleges, are unwilling or unable to facilitate
changes in time to adjust to the needs of the new generation of students.
Public schools are still run as they always have been and have not adapted
to the changing demands of today’s students. The fact that private
career colleges can adapt to changes much faster will allow them to become
more attractive to students than will be the traditional systems.
